I am trying to edit my form so the spaces for the answers aren't directly behind the question--it looks too cramped. How do I do this?

It is tough to know without seeing your page. Please post a URL.

Typically when this occurs it is due to a form being placed in a spot with minimum width. Shortening the length of text fields will typically correct the issue.

Thank you for the information. Within the form code, you will see a number of instances that say:

Code:
width: 30%;

If you change this percentage to a greater value, it will allow for the questions area to grow. 50% will probably be a good place to start. You will need to do this for each question in the code.
