I cannot get the autoresponder to work in HTML
Is this me or....

You need to click on FORM MANAGEMENT > Choose the form you created & click on EDIT> Then click on BASIC FORM INFORMATION and select the HTML option. Good Luck.

Actually, to ensure compatibility with all email clients and systems, all autoresponders are sent in text format.
